Jumpstart

Single-session, solution-focused psychotherapy and resources

Is Jumpstart for you?

Sometimes we need a boost -- a quick infusion of clarity and hope to keep us going. Problem-solving with another human being can:

  • promote personal agency and effectiveness

  • introduce options and resources

  • halt the hamster-wheel of repetitive thoughts by opening our minds to another perspective.

Jumpstart is a one-time, 90-minute solution-focused session for those who have completed a Counseling Request form.

Jumpstart may be for you if you:

  • are on our waitlist, but need more immediate tide-you-over assistance

  • are going through a crisis and could benefit from short-term support

  • need help finding resources, but are not interested in longer-term therapy

  • are wondering whether therapy could be useful and appropriate for you.

Jumpstart is not for individuals who:

  • have a number of complicated issues that cannot be abridged

  • prefer not to repeat their story to multiple professionals

How much does it cost?

We suggest a donation of $25. However, this is a sliding-scale program based on your financial means. Pay what you can. Your donation goes toward our other free and low-cost programs designed to help folks function better.

Who is my therapist?

Jumpstart therapists are graduate-student interns in counseling and social work.  Counseling experience is part of their education. Similar to the way that medical interns and residents work under the supervision of an attending physician, each therapist-intern works closely with a supervising clinician who has years of practical and teaching expertise.

We do our best to pair you with a therapist whose schedule matches yours.

What can I expect?

The therapist will explain confidentiality and safety and ask what you hope to get out of your time together. Together, you will review your primary concerns, identify your strengths, and assess areas of possible change. The therapist may also be able to suggest resources that you are unaware of or have overlooked.

It was nice to be able to meet in person with a therapist at the time of crisis as opposed to just being another number on a waitlist.

When you’re going through a crisis and you try to reach out for help and you’re told you have to be put on a waiting list – that causes a lot of strife. So it was really nice to get a call back to hear from you that we’d like you to come in for a session, because I knew that I needed to talk to someone right then
